New Delhi: A major plane crash has occurred in Pakistan. A Pakistan International Airlines flight from Lahore to Karachi has crashed near the airport. PIA spokesman Abdul Sattar confirmed the crash and said there were 90 passengers on board the A-320. Emergency has been declared in all major hospitals in Karachi, Pakistan following the plane crash. The plane had 90 passengers and 8 crew on board.
"At the present stage, it is difficult to say anything. Our crew has received training on how to land in an emergency. I pray for the families of the passengers. We will continue to provide information on this," Abdul Sattar said.
According to Pakistan media reports, the plane crashed at Model Colony in Jinnah Garden area, a short distance from Karachi airport. This area is also called Malir. Some houses have also been damaged due to the plane crash. Some pictures of the tragedy have also surfaced, showing smoke billowing from the buildings.
Pakistan Army Aviation helicopters were flown to assess the damage as well as rescue operations after the plane crashed. Rescue teams were also dispatched to the spot.
