Corona's condition in the country is now under control and the number of active cases is steadily declining, the central government said. In addition, the corona vaccine is expected to be available in the country in a few weeks. While the Serum Institute, Bharat Biotech and Pfizer have sought government approval for the corona vaccine, the government is preparing to vaccinate more than 300 million people simultaneously in three priority groups across the country. The government is also likely to sign an agreement with the Serum Institute for the vaccine.
Health workers, frontline workers and patients over the age of 50 with the highest risk of death from the coronavirus will be vaccinated in three priority groups, the health ministry said.
The National Expert Group on Vaccine Administration for COVID-19 (NEGVAC) has recommended to the government to vaccinate people in three groups. The government also plans to vaccinate more than 300 million people at a time, depending on the availability of doses, the health ministry said. The government will soon take a decision based on the recommendations of the NEGVAC.
27 million people will be vaccinated on priority basis
Health Ministry Secretary Rajesh Bhushan said the ministry estimates that 10 million healthcare workers, 20 million frontline workers, including the police, and another 27 million people over the age of 50 or commodities will be vaccinated on a priority basis. Structures have been set up at state, district and block level to facilitate easy delivery of vaccines to all corners of the country. A multi-level coordination mechanism has been set up under NEGVAC.
There are 85,634 devices available, including deep freezers, freezer trucks and ice boxes, as the infrastructure required for vaccine delivery. Orders have been placed for additional requirements. In addition, 28,947 cold chain points have been set up for storage of vaccines and syringes.
