The Yogi Adityanath government of Uttar Pradesh has given great relief to all the tenants of the state. The government has made it mandatory for landlords to enter into an agreement with the tenant. To this end, the Housing Department has enacted the UP Urban Tenancy Ordinance-2021. Which is likely to be implemented soon. Once the Tenancy Regulation Ordinance is enacted, landlords will be able to increase rents by 5 to 7 percent annually.

The Yogi Adityanath government has approved the ordinance to settle a dispute between a landlord and a tenant. Once the new law comes into force, no landlord will be able to keep a tenant without a contract. At the same time, landlords will not be able to raise rents at will. Under the new law, landlords must notify the rent administration before renting. Not only that, the landlord has to submit the letter of agreement to the rent authority within three months.
