For the seventh day in a row, more than 2 lakh cases of corona were reported in India and more than 1,000 people lost their lives. In addition, the number of active cases has crossed 21 lakh. The number of positive cases has been steadily increasing over the last few days and the recovery rate of COVID-19 patients has been declining in comparison.
Meanwhile, the Serum Institute of India today announced the price of Covishield vaccine following a directive from the Government of India. State governments will have to pay Rs 400 per dose of covshield vaccine and private hospitals will have to pay Rs 600 per dose.
Adar Poonawala, CEO, Serum Institute, said, "We will increase the production capacity of the vaccine in the next two months. 50 per cent of our capacity will be given to the Government of India's vaccination campaign and the remaining 50 per cent will be for state governments and private hospitals." Cheaper than all other vaccines, the American company Pfizer and Modernna vaccines cost Rs 1,500, while the Sputnik V costs Rs 750 per dose.
From May 1, everyone over the age of 18 in the country will be vaccinated against corona. India will provide Rs 1,500 crore to Biotech for covacin and Rs 3,000 crore to serum for covishield.
