The government on Tuesday said it had a proposal under consideration to revise the income criteria for determining the creamy layer among OBCs. Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Pratima Bhowmick has given this information in a written reply to S Jyotimani's question in the Lok Sabha. Members asked if the government has received a proposal to increase the creamy layer criteria?

The member asked whether the government was planning to increase the OBC creamy layer income slab to Rs 15 lakh. And what are the details of the Rohini Commission's proposal regarding the structure of OBC reservation?
On this, Minister Pratima Bhowmick said, "A proposal to research other criteria for determining the middle creamy layer of OBC is under consideration."
He said a commission headed by Rohini has been constituted by the government to consider the issue of sub-classification of OBCs. The commission did not present in its report.
