Inhumane incident in Andhra Pradesh: In West Godavari, 300 dogs were killed by injection on the orders of the Panchayat, buried together in a pit.
Andhra Pradesh has witnessed a heart-wrenching incident of violence against animals. Panchayat members of Lingapalam village in West Godavari district killed about 300 dogs by injecting them with poison. All the dogs were then buried in a pit near the village lake.
The whole incident came to light when animal rights activist Challapalli Srilata lodged a complaint at the police station on July 29. Following their complaint, the police have registered a case against the village panchayat secretary and sarpanch under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.
People were annoyed by the dog, so killed
According to news reports, people in Lingapalam village were fed up with the harassment of dogs. The people of the village panchayat felt it was right to kill the dog. Fight for Animals activist Srilata said she visited the village and saw some dog carcasses rotting near the lake. Inquiries from the villagers revealed that the act was carried out on the orders of the panchayat.
There are other instances of cruelty to animals
1. 36 monkeys were killed in Karnataka on Thursday
About 36 monkeys were found dead in Haasan district of Karnataka on Thursday. According to police, they were killed and then thrown in sacks. Each of these monkeys belonged to the bonnet macaque species, which is commonly found in South India. An investigation into the incident is also ongoing.
2. Cut off the dog's three legs with an ax
A month ago, a man tied up a dog in Rani town of Alwar district and cut off three of its legs with an ax. The dog was barking, but the man did not feel sorry for him. Eventually, the dog died. Police had registered a case against four members of the same family under the Animal Cruelty Act.
On June 20, in Patiala, Punjab, two women tied a dog to a Scooty and dragged it away. She did not believe when stopped by people. The dog was seriously injured in the incident. The animal was taken to hospital for treatment but died during treatment.
