Leave the broken English, now you can study engineering in Gujarati only.
Atul Tiwari/Ahmedabad: More emphasis is now being laid on the propagation of the mother tongue in Gujarat. Then for the first time in Gujarat, engineering studies will be conducted in the mother tongue. Engineering studies will be conducted in Gujarati language by Gujarat Technological University. Study will start in 4 engineering branches at Jeepary College at Mehsana run by GTU.
Naveen Seth, Chancellor of GTU, said that till now many students were deciding to stay away from engineering courses as engineering courses were conducted in English. But now with the start of study in Gujarati language in 4 branches of engineering, students from tribal and rural areas will also be attracted towards engineering course. English classes will also be conducted free of charge for engineering students in Gujarati. 20 percent of the total number of seats in Gujarati courses will also be given the benefit of scholarship.
He said that in the branch of civil, electronics, mechanical and computer engineering, students will be able to study in Gujarati language. GTU has been recognized with a total of 120 seats, 30 in each branch for conducting studies in Gujarati language.
It is worth mentioning that under the new education policy, emphasis has been placed on education in the mother tongue, under which last year engineering studies were conducted in 6 regional mother tongues by 19 institutes of 10 states of the country. Last year not a single university or college from Gujarat was seeking permission to study engineering in the mother tongue. This year permission was sought to start studies in 4 branches in Gujarati language only by the only Jiperi College at Mehsana run by GTU. Apart from Jiperi College, no university or college in the state has sought permission to start engineering courses in Gujarati this year.
